Just kidding (well unless you live in Quebec) For those of you who haven’t seen the news, students in Quebec are rioting over legislation to cut funding to universities which will cause their tuition to go up $325/year for the next 5 years. Now I would be pissed off too if it weren’t for the fact that Quebec students only pay an average of about $2415/year right now, Yeah that’s right, even after an increase of over $1500 they will still be paying about $2000 less than we do in Alberta (on average $5662/year)!!!
To that I say WTF Alberta!! Why aren’t we rioting about our high ass tuition, do we not live in the richest province in Canada? We need to start sending the government a message that we are tired of being taken advantage of. Now let’s be honest, the government rarely listens protesters or people who write angry letters to them, so there’s nothing we can do right?
Wrong! Get your ass out and vote! I won’t try and tell you who to vote for, because that should be a decision you make on your own, but I’m pretty damn sure that if 90% of people 18-24 voted instead of the measly 55% last election, tuition would actually be an issue at the debates, not just health care, and whether or not to reduce taxes, or give everyone money back when there is a surplus. Notice how big of a deal the federal government is making about seniors and their pensions and shit? That’s because 90% of people over 65 voted.
If you live in Alberta, April 23 (Today), is the provincial election so do your wallet a favour and get your ass out there and vote, or learn French and move to Quebec.
The Steve.
